Japan's response to the Israel-Hamas war 10-11-2023 Japan Update

TOKYO -- The Japanese government's response to the latest outbreak of violence between Israel and Hamas is notable in part for its plea that both sides exercise restraint.   Prime Minister Fumio Kishida condemned the attacks by Hamas on Israel in a statement posted Sunday to X, formerly Twitter, adding that Japan "is deeply concerned about a number of casualties in Gaza as well."   And, unlike U.S. President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Kishida didn't call the Hamas attacks "terrorism." Nor was Japan a part of a joint statement by the U.S., the U.K., France, Germany and Italy that condemned Hamas and pledged united support for Israel.   Read the full story here.
