With a tentative deal struck between scribes and the studios and streamers, the question of "When do we get back to work?" looms for writers and the industry at large. There is, of course, still the SAG-AFTRA strike, but with a ratification vote by WGA members on the way, the possibility of writers returning to work soon is very real. What that means for the film and TV businesses in the short term is now becoming clear. On the broadcast side, the beginning of October widely was seen as the marker for when the writers strike would need to be over to give ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC a fighting chance to get any of their scripted shows on the air for a midseason premiere. There is optimism that the majority of network dramas and comedies will be able to launch in the new year. Deadline spoke to a group of network execs, who said that by and large it will take drama series eight to 10 weeks to be back up and running and six to eight weeks for comedies. With the possibility of writers rooms returning, there could be situations where a TV series in the works will take precedence over a film project once actors return, and vice versa. It’s a situation on par with what occurred during Covid: Scheduling conflicts with actors are bound to ensue once the industry is fully back up in running. There may be situations where a film project loses an actor to TV, as writer's rooms will be pumping out scripts much faster than scribes on the feature side.>>>Studios May Soon Meet With Writers |

According to Çatak, most filmmakers, including himself, can feel a bit ‘same,’ despite best intentions. “Sometimes I feel like I watch films, and they’re so safe. You know where the story’s going to, and I actually want to see films that sometimes provoke and are not aligned to my perception of the world.” >>>Baz Bamigboye's Take |

After a 10-year hiatus, Gordon Ramsay is back to looking under the hood of some floundering restaurants. Kitchen Nightmares is returning to Fox Monday night, and it starts with a pretty gnarly scene right out of the gate. “I think Episode 1 is one of those that is just quintessential Kitchen Nightmares with a family at war and a restaurant in chaos,” executive producer David de Angelis told Deadline. In our interview, de Angelis breaks down the premiere episode of Kitchen Nightmares and shares more about revamping the series a decade later. He also explains the good — and the bad — learning lessons of the series, like how to know if you may have stumbled into one of those nightmarish kitchens yourself. >>> Read The Interview |
